Remembrances below by Gay Souter (Rutledge)
I grew up with Caryl at Cultus Lake and we were good friends. Caryl lived on the same street as Judy Buckingham and I lived on Birch St. with Betty-Lou on Maple St., one street over.
We were in the Cultus Lake Swim club and our relay team was Caryl on backstroke, Betty-Lou and I were either breast stoke or butterfly and Judy brought us home with the crawl. We won just about every time we went out. Now we wouldn't be able to compete against the winter clubs but were were good for a summer club.
One day coming out of English class at Sardis Secondary, Caryl didn't think I would be able to spell one of the words so she told me what it was.
We all went to each others' birthday parties and when I visited Caryl in the Kamloops Hospital a few months before she died, she told me the loved the birthday parties. We were always together, hiking, swimming, roller skating, you name it. She was a really a very special friend.
